Launched in 1978, The Blue Heron Gallery displays a large collection of representational contemporary fine art in a range of mediums, including oil, egg tempera, watercolor, pastels, acrylic, photography, etchings, sculpture and limited edition prints. The gallery maintains an impressive roster of award-winning artists from around the United States, many of whom have been displaying their work there for many years. Owner Roy Thurston is especially proud of the relaxed atmosphere that pervades this light, open gallery, which has rooms on two floors. The Blue Heron’s welcoming ambiance is important to Roy, who feels art should be accessible, not intimidating. The Blue Heron Gallery hosts artists’ receptions on Saturdays in July and August, offering new art and an opportunity to meet the artists.

The gallery is a unique combination of working studio and gallery of fine art. Artist/Owner Celeste Woodes-Koper creates and showcases her impressionist pastels and oil paintings depicting many local landscapes, flower gardens and still life. The gallery also features framed prints of her original artwork. Ms. Woodes-Koper’s paintings have been displayed on popular television shows such as “All My Children,” As The World Turns” and “General Hospital”. Her artwork is collected both nationally and internationally. Ms. Woodes-Koper presently divides her time between Cape Cod and Florida.

Cottontail Art Gallery is the first art gallery coming into Wellfleet. Co-owned by Blossom Newman and Al Menard. It is unique in that artist/owner Blossom paints not only in Monet style landscapes of Cape Cod, but figurative sculpture, watercolors, oils, monotype, abstracts, white-lined wood block prints, polaroid transfers, handpainted tiles, and represents other award-winning local artists, as Georgia Coxe and Al Menard photography. Costume and handcrafted jewelry complement this creative gallery. Paintings are alson on view at restaurants, Van Rensselaer, Falcone’s, Bookstore, and Cape Cod Reality, all in Wellfleet, and also Provincetown Art Association.
